How to eat in midlife

The midlife struggle with eating.
Have you ever struggled to eat a certain way? Maybe you wanted to try the latest fad diet, convinced that this way of eating will finally help you lose that midlife weight, or help with your health goals.
My midlife friend, I think I have tried all the "diets" out there. Trying different ways of eating became my hobby for many years. I am very facinated by nutrition and how food can heal our body and mind, although I am not a nutritionist or health care provider (see my disclaimer), but rather a food enthusiast! After all, I enjoy eating and want my food to help me age heathier and happier, and of course, taste delicious!
The obsession with WHAT to eat.
I was always focused on the WHAT to eat or what not to eat.
What foods will help me lose weight?
What foods are good for my bones?
What foods will help me sleep?
What foods are "bad"?
What foods are "good"?
I never gave much thought to anything else about eating. It was always about what I should or shouldn't eat. Especially the shouldn't. And that felt hard to do, right?
My thoughts would always go to that feeling of deprivation. What I shouldn't eat. Have you ever said a food was "bad" or "good" or that you were "bad" or "good" for eating it?
This thinking really set me up for an unhealthy relationship with food in my younger adult years.
A new way of looking at eating
During my year long health and life coach training, I learned about mindful eating.
I started to reframe my thinking from foods being "good" or bad" to "foods that give me energy" and "foods that take it away".
I also learned that there's more to meeting my "eating" goals than focusing only on the WHAT I eat.
Why I eat
How I eat
Who I am being when I eat
Where I eat
When I eat
I was pleasantly surprised to learn and experience that focusing on some other aspects of eating helped me reach my health goals. It's about a lot more than just what to eat. And this is a good thing!
